Elhallgatott

Elhallgatott zenekarok

– A 60-as, 70-es évekből…

Between 1968 and 1975, there were several bands whose every performance, both in Budapest and in the countryside, attracted large crowds. Among them, Taurus stood out.

Even at their first performance, a full house crowded into the Budai Youth Park. At the end of the concert, amidst the unending applause and frenzy, the crowd moved to Clark Ádám Square, where, stopping traffic and amidst the impending police action, they shouted towards the sky: “Béla Radics to the party! Taurus to the government!” The presence, performances, music, and concerts of these bands embodied the idea of freedom. The party leadership at the time did everything to stop the growing popularity of these bands. The list of silenced bands includes: Aligátor, Atlantisz, Atlas, Bajtala, Kex, Liversing, Scampolo, Syrius, Taurus, Tűzkerék. It is not a naive question: why did these bands have to be silenced? Why couldn’t they release albums or appear in the media of the time?

At the concert held on December 3, 2016, at the MOM Cultural Center, some original members of these bands took to the stage again, joined by young talents, and performed the old, well-known songs with new sound and new content. This publication commemorates that concert.
